Course Description

This course features a recorded webinar, "Modern Communications Law in Singapore" held on 14 October 2025. This is part 1 of a two-part programme.

Synopsis:

Modern communication is everywhere: social media, messaging apps, digital platforms, and AI-generated content now shape how we speak, work, and relate to one another. As communication moves online, the legal issues that arise from it have become more complex, more urgent, and more relevant to every area of legal practice.

Communications law in Singapore has changed dramatically. No longer confined to traditional telecommunications, print, and broadcasting, it now governs how individuals and businesses communicate online, handle data, manage reputational risk, and respond to digital risks.

This webinar provides a practical and accessible primer on key developments in Singapore’s modern communications law. It introduces new legislation: including the Protection from Harassment Act, the Online Criminal Harms Act, the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Act, the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act, the Online Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act, and emerging efforts in AI regulation. We will explore how these frameworks have expanded the legal toolkit for content regulation, tackling online misconduct, and digital misinformation. Where relevant, the session will explore how these developments intersect with litigation and corporate advisory work, including issues relating to communication, marketing, regulatory exposure, and reputational management.

Whether you advise individuals, companies, or are simply interested in exploring this growing space, this session will help you understand the shifting legal landscape of communications, content, and digital risks.
